Client Testimonials

Over the course of two years I had the pleasure of working with Mitchell Feldman to assist me with the promotion, publicity and production of Keith Jarrett concerts I produced in New York City at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall and at Carnegie Hall. Mitchell acted as my New York liaison for these events, charged with the tasks of writing press releases, securing feature coverage and reviews, assisting in the coordination of ad layout and media buys and interfacing first hand with the venues on my behalf. His work was consistently at the highest professional standard -- he set up major interviews published in The New York Times and The New York Post and secured "Best Bet" or "Pick Of The Week" listings in New York Magazine, The New Yorker and Time Out-NY—and the results spoke for themselves as all three concerts were sold out. Mitchell's writing skills are top-notch resulting in press releases that are exciting and literate yet to the point. His understanding of the jazz and classical music worlds is expert and this understanding is based on a broad knowledge of music and a true love of the art form. His background also includes concert promotion and record company management as well as multi-language skills that further add to his experience and credentials. In addition I find Mitchell very easy to work with, exhibiting an easy-going nature mixed with enthusiasm, yet the confidence to make well considered suggestions and decisions. I continue to be very pleased with his talent, skill and demeanor and look forward to collaborating with him whenever the opportunity to do so arises.

OMAR JEANTON, Executive Producer / Co-owner – Cacao Musica (Caracas, Venezuela)
As director of the Venezuelan label Cacao Musica, I considered several candidates in our search to find the rightcompany to promote to the US market our catalogue of jazz, Latin and World Music recordings. There is no doubt MFA was the best choice to provide the radio promotion, publicity, editorial and consulting services our new North American operations required. Mitchell Feldman began consulting with us in the fall of 2008 and developed a strategic campaign to introduce our label to the print and broadcast media in the US and Canada that was tailored to our specific goals and needs. Aware of the expense of servicing hundreds of media contacts with multiple CDs, Mitchell suggested we produce a compilation he named “A Taste Of Cacao” highlighting the three most commercially viable titles that was serviced to North American radio and used for promotional purposes. He secured airplay for CDs we released in November 2007 and February 2008 on NPR, college and community radio stations in the US and Canada that enabled them to appear on jazz and world music charts; reviews in The New York Times and other major daily newspapers and coverage in DownBeat and other international music magazines. Mitchell convinced us to have a booth at the 2008 IAJE convention in Toronto where he made sure to connect us with helpful contacts in every sector of the international jazz industry, and he coordinated and promoted a two-night showcase of Cacao artists at The Jazz Gallery in New York City. Mitchell’s dedication to our company and artists showedhow seriously he takes personal responsibility for implementing and following-up with all aspects involved in raising awareness of a record company in North America. Mitchell, we thank you for your know-how, your prestige, your expertise and the impeccable job you did that enabled the promotion of Cacao Musica to cross borders with minimum problems and maximum results.

JANINE IRONS, Managing Director – DUNE RECORDS (London, UK)
We’re delighted to have retained Mitchell whom we consider an excellent representative for our company. We were so pleased with the results he achieved for Dune during the year he handled our national US radio promotion as well as artist specific and label publicity that we named him director of our North American Operations in August 2005. Mitchell not only appreciates where we’re coming from as a label, but is also as passionate as we are about helping our artists advance their careers and getting their music heard by as large an audience as possible. Historically, British jazz artists have had a tough time getting noticed in America and Mitchell’s comprehensive knowledge of the jazz scene there made him a natural choice for us when we were looking for a jazz promotions specialist to orchestrate Dune's entry into the US market. He immediately achieved great results for us both over the airwaves—where our albums have been played around the country and made the jazz radio charts—and in the music trade, jazz and general interest press where, thanks to his efforts, we have received significant coverage in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Billboard, Down Beat, JazzTimes and other major publications.

DALE FITZGERALD, Founder & Executive Director – THE JAZZ GALLERY (NYC)
I had the opportunity to meet and work with Mitchell in December 2004 when he coordinated a project for the British label Dune Records that brought one of their artists to The Jazz Gallery for his North American debut. So impressed were all of us by Mitchell’s dedication, knowledge and determination…and by the quite outstanding results he produced in terms of publicity and turn-out for the event…that he quickly moved to the top of the list of those publicists we were considering to promote the Gallery’s 10th Anniversary season during the fall of 2005. Immediately upon retaining him in this capacity, Mitchell set about mapping out a long-term strategy and, most importantly, implemented a promotional campaign that targeted a local, national and international set of jazz publications and writers. At each point along the way Mitchell was at the ready with superb editing skills and a confident plan for how—and when—best to approach various segments of the media. The amount of advance publicity and featured listings we received in influential publications like The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Village Voice and Time Out for events during our four-month 10th Anniversary season was unprecedented in the Gallery’s history as was the number of reviews and news items in the national jazz press. The local coverage raised our profile considerably and directly contributed to the noticeable increase in attendance and membership we enjoyed this fall. Mitchell’s long-standing knowledge of the jazz scene, his international experience and his passion for the music place him in a very special position that enable his efforts to be particularly effective. We have twice extended his contract and can highly recommend him as a broadly skilled and always available resource.

In 2005 Mitchell Feldman conducted the North American jazz radio promotion and publicity campaign for Anzic Records' first release, label founder Anat Cohen's recording debut as a leader "Place & Time." The results he achieved played no small part in raising Anat's profile both in the US and Canada. With the full-fledged launch of Anzic in the Spring of 2007 we naturally included MFA in the team of partners we assembled to promote and market our next releases. Mitchell delivered superb results with the North American college radio campaign he conducted for "Poetica," one of Anat's subsequent albums. The CD was the #1 jazz add at college radio the week of its add date, the highest debuting title on the CMJ Jazz Top-40 Chart at #10 the following week and ranked in the Top-10 for 6 consecutive weeks, peaking at #8. We plan to continue to retain MFA for future jazz radio promotion campaigns and would not hesitate to recommend the firm to any jazz artist or label in need of these services. Mitchell is a highly efficient, hands on promoter who has proven to be responsive to our every need, providing clear and concise weekly reports, prompt answers to our questions and useful information when consulted about the business of jazz in general. We're extremely grateful for the work he's done on our behalf and feel confident entrusting our artist’s radio promotion to his capable hands.

JALEEL SHAW, Alto Saxophonist / Composer / Owner – Changu Records (Paterson, NJ)
I honestly didn't understand the importance of promotion until I met Mitchell Feldman. After having disappointing results trying to promote my first CD on my own, I consulted with and hired Mitchell to work my second CD "Optimism" that I released on my own label, Changu Records. Mitchell was selective and sent my CD to the right people-- ones he KNEW would play my music. Altogether more than 100 stations in the US and Canada programmed “Optimism” which reached #3 on the CMJ college radio Jazz Top-40 Chart and spent several weeks on the JazzWeek Top-50 Jazz Chart. Mitchell also secured interviews for me with 5 of the top jazz radio stations in the country and was extremely consistent in informing me every time my CD was added to a radio station’s playlist and every time my CD was played by that station. As far as publicity is concerned, Mitchell secured reviews of “Optimism” in The New York Times, Downbeat, Jazztimes, Jazziz and Allaboutjazz as well as a “Players” profile in DownBeat. During the course of the promotion I was also nominated for the Jazz Journalist Association’s “Up And Coming Jazz Musician of the Year”award and moved up to #4 from #8 in the Rising Star Alto Saxophone category in the DownBeat International Jazz Critics Poll. I’m extremely happy with the work Mitchell has done for me and I highly recommend his services to any serious musician looking to find a broader audience for their music.

JAKE BERGEVIN, Trumpeter / Vocalist / Composer / Bandleader / Owner
M'Ocean Records (Seattle)

I was fortunate that I retained MFAduring the Winter of 2008 to support the promotion to jazz radio and press of "Holding Back the Dawn" -- my first widely released CD as a jazz vocalist and trumpeter. Thanks to Mitchell Feldman the CD reached a wide audience in the US and Canada, appearing on North American college jazz radio chartsfor over a month peaking at number 22. During the promotion it was played on over 80 radio stations in nearly every state and I have received some nice feedback as a result of his energy and drive.

Mitchell showed tremendous dedication and enthusiasm when promoting "Holding Back the Dawn" and I've been happy with his services on many counts. Most importantly he has a long history in the music business and his relationships have been helpful in opening doors that I didn't even know existed; his connections definitely benefitted me and my project. Furthermore, I’ve been pleased with his prompt and thorough communications, things that are often overlooked in business. Mitchell has been happy to entertain some unconventional requests and always surpassed my expectations.

Finally, whether in late night phone conversations or very early e-mail dialogs, I’ve appreciated Mitchell for his frank and honest feedback throughout the promotion process, never promising more than can be delivered and always letting me know his thoughts on any particular matter in no uncertain terms. When trying to navigate the labyrinth of the music indsutry especially in jazz where opinions can be rigid to say the least, it's been nice to have a straight shooter in my corner. I would gladly recommend his services to any artist looking to raise their profile and expand their audience.

BUCK McKINNEY, Composer / Producer / Guitarist – GNAPPY (Austin, Texas)
With Mitchell’s help, our third release “Unloaded” spent 8 weeks in the CMJ Jazz Radio Top 40, cracking into the Top 20 for the first time in Gnappy’s career. The record garnered significant airplay at Jazz Week-reporting stations, with a feature and positive review in JazzWeek Magazine; and received focused exposure on XM Radio’s progressive programs “Beyond Jazz” and “Jammin’ Jazz.” And while those accomplishments were impressive, they convey only half the story. Put simply, Mitchell may be the most passionate and conscientious person we’ve encountered in the music industry. He cares deeply about the people he represents, and celebrates each victory with them. Throughout our campaign, Mitchell was always there when we needed him. Phone calls and e-mails received almost instantaneous response, and Mitchell’s replies were uniformly substantive. In this day and age, that attention to detail is not only unusual, it is a veritable anomaly. We look forward to working with Mitchell on Gnappy’s next release, and it is without hesitation that we recommend him to you.

JIM ALFREDSON, Founder / Musical Director – ORGANISSIMO (Lansing, MI)
If there’s one phrase that sums up the work ethic of Mitchell, it is “above and beyond”! Our expectations were exceeded time and time again during Mitchell’s campaign to promote our second CD, “This Is The Place”. In this world, the single most important element in any relationship is trust and Mitchell exudes that with every correspondence and phone call. Jazz radio music and program directors trust him, jazz journalists trust him, and as his client, we learned to trust him very quickly. To take a self-produced, self-released CD like ours and get it played on over 130 stations around the US, charted in the Top 20 of JazzWeek, and in the CMJ Top 10 for four weeks, is simply the result of hard work and trust. People in the industry know that when Mitchell sends them a CD, it is something they should listen to and that kind of relationship with the jazz media is invaluable. As a result of the press and radio exposure we received we have transcended being a popular local “bar band” and not only performed several times at the legendary Baker’s Keyboard Lounge in Detroit and the Green Mill and Hot House in Chicago, but also been booked for the 2006 Syracuse, Detroit and Chicago Jazz Festivals. This can all be directly attributed to Mitchell’s promotion efforts and we can’t recommend him highly enough. We will most definitely be using him again on our next project.

KAREN BLIXT, Jazz Vocalist (Albany, CA)
Well connected, a great communicator, a tireless worker, trustworthy. By these measures, Mitchell Feldman is a very, very good radio promoter. But what sets him apart from many others who are also very good at radio promotion is his passion for the music. He makes it his mission to get the music he is representing heard, because he believes it should be heard. And he gets results. Throughout my radio campaign, Mitchell stayed in constant communication with me, readily offering advice and feedback as someone who understands the ins and outs of the radio world, but also as someone who was eager to understand my music and what I'm trying to do as an artist. I grew to really appreciate his unique perspective and sincere support of my work. I really look forward to sharing my next CD release with him.

OLIVER LAKE, Multi-instrumentalist / Composer (NYC)
Mitchell’s commitment, professionalism and focused diligence resulted in my Steel Quartet’s latest CD, “Dat Love,” getting played on nearly 150 stations and reviewed around the US during the course of a 10-week promotion campaign. His consistent and informative reports to my management tracking airplay and press coverage were comprehensive and extremely helpful in conducting our day-to-day business.

MICHELE ROSEWOMAN, Pianist / Composer / Bandleader (NYC)
Mitchell was a great collaborative partner in promoting the release of "The In Side Out," my first self-produced CD. The prospect of getting the music broadcast on radio and covered in the press seemed daunting until I found Mitchell. I felt confident and in great hands throughout the process, because of his knowledge of and experience in both arenas, his understanding of and insights into the music itself and his commitment to my making an impact with the recording. The level of consistency, professional-
ism and personal involvement he displayed promoting both the CD and the tour in support of its release would be an asset to anyone. I would highly recommend Mitchell Feldman to any of my associates.

TINEKE POSTMA, Saxophonist / Composer (The Netherlands)
Mitchell Feldman conducted a national publicity campaign in the US during the fall of 2007 for “A Journey That Matters,” my third album as a leader. Being a European jazz artist, I know how important it is to work with people like himbecause it's not easy to promote your product from abroad and he provided invaluable assistance and he clearly cared about my music. I’m delightedthat among the positive reviews my CD received were prominent ones accompanied by photos in DownBeat, Jazziz and Jazztimes. Thanks to Mitchell my career in the US is moving forward and much faster though his great efforts to promote me. I hope we will work together again in the future.

LISA ST. CYR, President – St Cyr Collective / Manager of MANUEL VALERA (NYC)
You only have one chance to make a first impression. So, when my client, Manuel Valera, decided to embark on a national radio campaign to promote his debut CD, “Forma Nueva,” we agreed the product had to be handled by a professional. Mitchell is a great resource. He knows the music promotion business, and particularly important for us, he knows the business of jazz. Valera’s CD received incredibly strong support at radio for a self-produced first recording by an emerging artist. It charted for several months on both the JazzWeek and College Radio charts and was also prominently featured on nationally syndicated radio programs. Although we did a limited publicity campaign, “Forma Nueva” was one of the rare jazz CDs to be selected as an Album Pick and reviewed in Billboard. The results Mitchell achieved helped us stand out in a crowded marketplace and we retained him again to provide radio promotion and publicity services for Valera’s second CD, “Melancolía.”

ERICA JACOBSOHN, President – Serendipity Arts / Manager of PETER APFELBAUM (NYC)
I've worked with a number of different publicists but Mitchell is the first who felt like an integral part of our team rather than a hired gun. He was engaged by the German label ACT Music to handle the PR campaign for “It Is Written,” the debut CD by Peter Apfelbaum’s New York Hieroglyphics Ensemble and Peter’s first big band album in a decade. We got superb results. In addition to reviews of the recording in Down Beat, JazzTimes and Jazziz, Peter was the subject of a profile in DownBeat and of a Jazz Notes column in Billboard timed to the street date of the CD. Mitchell was also able to insure that we received listings in all of the major New York publications for our gigs in the city. Mitchell also does radio promotion and while the label we're working with didn't hire him to work on our campaign, he still provided us with important information regarding airplay around the U.S. that we would not have had access to otherwise. Next time we will definitely want him to do our radio promotion as well as PR. I'm frequently asked for publicist recommendations—I have and will continue to recommend Mitchell to anyone who asks.

KEITH TERRY, Founder & Musical Director – SLAMMIN all-body band (Oakland, CA)
Crosspulse Records & Videos retained Mitchell to handle radio promotion in the US and Canada of the debut CD by SLAMMIN all-body band. Our group—a sextet of four a cappella singers, a body percussionist and a beat-boxer— is an unusual sell since neither the band nor its recording fit neatly into any one convenient musical genre or format. Mitchell did an outstanding job in every aspect of our promotion, from working to getting adds and airplay around the country to arranging interviews. His tenacity, endless energy and attention to detail were evident in every step of the project. In particular, I appreciate his style: While masterful in his knowledge of “who” to send the CD to and the various “what’s” that need to be done “when,” he was open to input and discussion when we had thoughts or questions about the procedure. Most importantly, Mitchell always follows through—he does what he says he will do. The SLAMMIN all-body band CD peaked at #23 on the CMJ Jazz Top-40 chart measuring airplay at 150 college stations in the US and Canada and was heard regularly at NPR stations in Boston, Norfolk, Philadelphia and the San Francisco Bay Area. We wouldn't have gotten there without Mitchell's services and I recommend him without hesitation.

My wife and I decided to devote more time to our own musical careers during the fall of 2005 and needed someone to handle national radio promotion and publicity for three CDs our 10-year-old jazz label and artist services company was releasing. I’d met Mitchell at a national convention of jazz radio programmers, labels and promoters, and learned he is respected in our field for his dedication to his work, the results he achieves and the services he provides his clients. BluJazz retained him for five months in 2005 and from September 2006 through August 2007 to handle a total of 11 releases on our label as well as a DownBeat Critics Poll campaign for violinist Diane Delin. We were not disappointed. Going out of house for our promotion activities was seamless and Mitchell delivered the level of national results BluJazz was accustomed to achieving for its artists. Each CD received extensive national jazz airplay on both NPR non-commercial and college radio stations, made the jazz charts at the radio trade publications JazzWeek and CMJ, was featured on nationally syndicated jazz programs and reviewed in the national jazz press. We were particularly pleased that Diane’s CD reached the top-5 at JazzWeek and she was voted #2 Rising Star on her instrument in the 2007 DownBeat International Jazz Critics Poll. Mitchell provided clear and concise reports of his tracking activities and was always accessible and available to us. BluJazz turned an essential function of our company over to him and he did an exceptional job. We would not hesitate to engage him again in the future or to refer other jazz labels or artists to him.
